For this project, I'm in Corel PHOTO-PAINT X6.
To start I'm opening the Connect docker.
I'll expand out the docker for a good size display area.
X6 content is selected
so I'm going to type in Japan,
I'm looking for a slight oriental flavour,
Not too much, just a little.
I'm going to go with this image here.
I'll open the tray, and create a brand new tray.
I'll call this Poster project,
and drag the image onto the tray.
Now collapse the tray.
I have some more images in a folder on my Desktop.
So I'll turn on Vectors and Folders and turn off Bitmaps.
Double-click on Desktop to see the folders on my Desktop.
Here I have 3 CDR files, that's why I turned on Vectors.
Hold Ctrl & select all three CDR files,
Then drag them onto the tray.
I'm just going to resize the docker again
then close the Connect docker.
Now I'll drop this image into PHOTO-PAINT.
Maximise the window and collapse the tray
F4 on the keyboard and I’m ready to start.
From the View menu, I'll turn on rulers
they can be quite useful.
Ctrl+C - Ctrl+V creates a duplicate of the background.
I'll rename it to Photograph.
And I’m just going to lock out the background.
So I’ll select the background, turn on the lock,
and turn off the display of the background.
When I select the image and move it away,
you can see I have a checkered background.
Remember: if you do click on the grey area,
the background becomes the active object.
Be sure you have the object you want to work on selected.
I'll now apply an effect. Effects, Camera
and I’m going to apply a Lens Flare.
From the Rays tab I'm going to use a preset.
I'm going to choose the 50x300 zoom preset.
I'll move the dialog box over so I can set the origin.
By selecting the + and clicking in the top right-hand corner
the flare effect now displays diagonally.
The little flares look absolutely brilliant.
Click OK.
Now I want to apply a photo filter lens.
So from the Object menu, choose Create - New Lens
choose Photo Filter & rename to Pink photo lens & click OK.
The lens is red by default, so I’ll click the Color list box
and choose a light color pink.
Set Density to maximum, enable Preserve luminosity, and click OK.
This is the new pink photo lens here.
I want to create another lens effect.
Again Object, Create and New Lens.
I'm going to create a pixelate lens.
Rename and click OK.
I'll just slide the dialog box over
and I'm going to select Radial.
The effect is in the center by default.
But I want to reposition the origin, so I’ll select the +
and click in the top right-hand corner.
It's a great effect.
The values I've previously tested with are 22, 47, 53.
click OK.
It's a spectacular effect.
Now I’ll save.
It's good idea to pick the right point to save.
I’m about to resample.
Image - Resample and I want a Width of 250mm wide,
and the Height to be 300.
I will have to deselect the Maintain aspect ratio option.
Then type in 300.
I want 300dpi resolution so I’ll click OK.
Now I'm going to export this as a TIFF file.
File - Export and choose the TIFF option,
you can see I've saved one before
I'll just double-click on the one I've previously saved.
All objects will be merged with background in the exported file.
Meaning all the objects here in the Objects docker,
will be flattened as a single image inside the TIFF file.
Click OK.
For this next stage I’ll be working CorelDRAW
I’ve opened CorelDRAW, & I'm creating a new document.
I've called it Poster.
I need to use the size of the image I just created
250 X 300 & I’m working in CMYK, 300dpi.
click OK.
I want to bring the image we've just created in
as a background to the page.
Double-click on the page border
then in Document choose Background.
See the options here.
Choose Bitmap, click Browse, and select the image.
Be sure Print & Export Background is selected
so when I eventually output the file,
the background is a permanent part of the result.
I can't select the background, its completely un-editable.
I'll open the Object Manager docker - Tools - Object Manager.
I want 3 layers in total so I'll add 2 more layers.
I'm going to rename the first layer to Background
the next layer to Body text and the third layer,
I’ll call that Title text.
I need to make sure to select the background layer.
To create a rectangle the perfect size of the page
double click on the Rectangle tool
and automatically a rectangle at page size is created.
F4 zooms out & then I’ll select the Eyedropper tool
I'm going to sample a pink color.
Then click to fill the rectangle with the color.
Right-click on the X, then select the Transparency tool.
Then Click+Drag from the bottom to the top.
The color black is completely transparent
and the color white is opaque.
I don't want completely opaque at the bottom
So I’ll drag a gray onto the bottom of the Transparency.
That creates a nice transparency.
If I delete the object you can see the difference.
Ctrl+Z, undo.
It looks really great.
I'm going to rename the rectangle to Pink fade
so I know what it is.
Now I'm going to create a white frame around the outside.
Window - Dockers- Object Coordinates docker.
This docker creates objects and perfectly places them.
We need to understand the coordinates of the design.
This top-left corner is x = 0 and y = 300.
The right-hand side is x = 250 and y = 300 and so forth.
If I select the rectangle I have created,
automatically its values appear in the docker.
The size is 250 by 300, and the object origin is centre
so these coordinates are for centre.
Selecting top left, sets values of x = 0 and y = 300.
Now, I'm going to create four rectangles.
The first, will use the x and y for the upper top left.
I'll set it to 250, which is the width of the page, & 7mm tall.
Then click Create object.
Now for one at the bottom of the page.
This time the bottom lower left will be the origin point
if I scroll down, you can see that y = 0 and x = 0
so I need to set this coordinate to 0.
Using the same dimensions, click Create Object.
For the left side, set upper left for the object origin
and set X = 300 then change the dimensions to
7mm wide & 300mm high because 300 is the height of the page.
Click Create Object.
For the right, I’ll select upper right as the object origin.
Then set X = 250 because that's the width of the page,
and click Create Object.
Now I’ll select all objects using Ctrl+A
then finger on Shift
and deselect the pink rectangle on the top.
I'm now going to weld everything together.
Click Weld, fill with white, and remove the outline.
I'll close down the Object Coordinates docker
because I won’t be using it anymore.
The frame was the final element of the background,
So I’ll rename the curve to Frame, and lock this layer.
locking the layer stops me accidently moving any objects.
In the next video, I’ll be working in the Body Text layer.
