For the fist time in 'High Mileage' we have an electric car.
This Tesla Roadster has driven more than 100.000 km. And we check if we can find any irregularities.
Exactly on the spot.
On the back left it's nine.
Brake pads are almost done.
Alternating current. Air cooled...
Henny, have you ever driven an EV before? -I've driven hybrids, but never a pure electric car.
So it's a first time for you? - Yes.
Is there anything to check on an EV? - Ofcourse there are the regular mechanical parts.
You have suspension, brakes, tires, steering gear etcetera.
But apart from that, there's no combustion engine. - No, excatly.
But you always manage to find faults... Ofcourse we've found a few things.
A Porsche 911 will make it. But you'll need the Turbo.
The airco condensor is in de front and acts like a air intake.
It's eats a lot of dust. The airco also takes car of the cooling of the motor.
That condensor is very dirty. It's needs to be cleaned, or else there will be a problem soon.
Or else the motor wil run hot? - Yes.
And the brake pads at the back need replacement.
Nothing else? - Nope. Everything is ok...
I keep away from the electronics. If we touch it with unskilled hands, it could be perlious.
If you touch it, your hair will look totally different... - We'd better leave that to the experts.
Then this will be it.
This is amazing. It's unbelievably fast. How fast wil it go from 0 to 100? 0:03:57.886,1193:02:47.295 3,9 seconds. -You will need serious tools to keep up with it.
But a BMW M3 will need to do it's utter best. - It wont'make it...
What's the top speed? - It's limited to 210 kph. It runs 14.000 rpm then.
In practise I never drive that fast. I did it only once. The real thrill is going from 0 to 150.
That's the interesting part.
Can you explain the stickers on the side? What's the point with that? - It's from our company Chargepoint.
We develop and make chargepoints for EV's.
We want everybody in Holland tot be able to plug in and charge there EV's.
Your car is one of the very first Tesla's It was a complete new brand...
Can you notice that on the car? Do you have the idea you're running a prototype?
It's definetly not a prototype. But if we find any errors, our information is gratefully used by Tesla...
They love to know and are open to it...
Ofcourse it's an American car and it has American finishing.
It isn't as solid as a German car, but we take that for granted.
It's not bad. We can live with it. - I guess you have to be a bit forgiving with a car like this.
You have driven an EV so much right now. Is it thinkable that you ever go back to an car with an combustion engine?
No. Once you've experienced this, you never go back.
So you're convinced? - Absolutely I'm convinced.
That's part because I'm attatched to the branche. But apart from that, driving electric is an experience...
Once you've done it...
It's silent. You notice the sounds around you... ...and you don't want to go back to a thumping diesel.
Henny didn't find a lot of faults on the car... And and electric engine runs or is broke, there's no way in between...
I'm curious how much more kilometres you run... - I'm expecting to make a lot more.
I'm very positive about it. - Me too.
Good.
