This phase is the design phase.
First, I will customize the interface.
The Default Palette can be undocked and docked on the left side.
Click this icon to Customize the palette
I’m setting four rows of color wells
so I don't have to scroll through too many colors.
I'm going to select the Interactive tool flyout
and place it top right
then select the Curve tool flyout,
Reshape it, and place underneath the other.
A customized working area will
be more convenient for this project.
The first tool I will use is the Bezier tool.
Remember the active layer is Face Shadows
and on this layer I will draw the objects.
Click at one point, and at the next point,
hold the left mouse button down,
it displays control handles to shape the line.
To close the loop, click back at the starting point,
Hold down the left mouse button to shape the line.
Fill with gray by clicking on a Gray color well.
Right-click the No color well to remove the outline color.
Now repeat; creating a different shape
and then fill it with the same grey,
right-click and remove the outline.
Already it looks nice.
This next shape will seem unusual.
Using the same processes to shape this object,
hold down the left mouse button on every click for the handles
then fill with a golden brown color,
then right-click the no color well.
To use the Freehand tool hold the
left mouse button down and draw.
Draw back over the starting point for it to join up.
Fill with golden brown, then right-click the No color well.
I'll create another small object here and
fill with a purple color.
Then right-click the No color well.
Then one last shape here
filling it with golden brown.
Notice it did not fill?
that's because I didn't draw back to the starting point.
Doing it again I will make sure to draw back to the starting point,
then fill with golden brown and right-click the No color well.
There is one more area I want to draw a shape on.
Here inside of the shoulder.
It's an unusual shape;
just to be creative.
Then fill with gray and right-click the No color well.
Tap the Spacebar to go back to the Pick tool
and move the shape closer.
F4 zooms to all objects, so I can see everything.
To shape it some more
click to select, then click again for the skew handles and skew.
To remove the page border, double-click on the border.
Then deselect Show page border.
Removing the page border makes the space feel more open.
Use the bottom Sizing handle to reduce horizontal height.
These objects will look great with some effects
so I am going to apply a transparency to some.
Select the Transparency tool and click an object,
from this drop-down menu choose the transparency type Texture.
There are many textures to choose from
depending on the Sample set chosen,
Each set displays a variety of textures.
I’m going to choose the default texture
then move the starting transparency point to
the 60% position.
To apply the same transparency to other objects,
first hide all the other layers,
then select an object and on
the Property Bar select Copy transparency properties,
then click the object with the transparency to copy.
then repeat with the other objects
and the same with the grey object.
Being able to copy a transparency makes it easy?
Now, turn the layers back on
to see the result, which look great!
Adding some media objects will add more creativity
and help stylize the image.
Select the Artistic Media tool.
Check which layer is presently active.
Select the Face Outline layer to be active.
to create a shoulder shape
Click and draw, however, this is the wrong brush
Instead, select Preset
and my favourite stroke is this one,
it's narrower at the front and rear of the stroke.
Again I’ll click and draw.
This is a better shape.
I’ll just move it down and over.
To highlight this shoulder shape,
draw a smooth stroke, then broaden the stroke.
For a stroke at the front, I am going to select Brush,
and Sensual and one of these two strokes.
You can always try a stroke and change it after.
While it's selected, choose the other stroke.
This stroke looks better.
Z selects the Zoom tool
Zoom in for a better view.
H selects the Pan tool
Click and drag the working area into the right view.
Spacebar selects the Pick tool
Again, select the Artistic Media tool.
With the same brush stroke
experiment adding hair style strokes.
and make the strokes gray
to blend in as you can see.
Then a few more
This looks great.
Now select the Calligraphy category
and select a new stroke.
Add some more creative touches.
At the top will look nice
I’ll Just make the stroke narrower.
That looks nice.
Now, zoom in on the eyes.
Check the active layer.
Select the right eye layer to be active.
Select the Artistic Media tool, Preset and the first stroke,
This stroke creates great looking eyelashes.
Experiment first.
This is too wide, so lower the width.
Draw over the top of the existing lashes.
this is a nice touch
plus I can add more lashes.
Select the left eye and
do the same thing.
The eyes look fuller now.
F4 zooms back out to all objects.
The image looks more alive now..
adding the eyelashes has made a real difference.
I will now add some more strokes under the chin.
First, check which layer is the active layer.
Select the Face Outline layer to be active.
Select the Artistic Media tool, and Brush
selecting this stroke here.
It's an unusual stroke but will work well.
It has the perfect shape for the chin.
Draw smoothly along the jaw line.
Then back to Preset and choose the top stroke.
Add some artistic strokes.
Add another and then a black one on top.
Click on the black color well.
The concept here is to create a stylized scarf,
and do it artistically rather than literally.
Select the Zoom tool and zoom in to add some hair.
Select Brush, Sensual and pick some hair strokes.
Experiment with strokes.
Follow the existing hair shape.
Make sure the stroke width looks right.
Then place strokes.
Alternate colors.
Be sure to stroke in both directions.
Stroking in both directions gives you different shapes
and is worth experimenting with.
Continuous back and for the strokes can also work well.
It produces a fuller look.
F4 zoom to all objects.
It's looking great!
For the shoulder, choose Splatter
and choose this wiry shape.
Place one single stroke,
and increase the stroke width.
A Broader stroke spreads the wire apart.
Choose Preset, and use the same stroke as previously.
Add a single stroke on the shoulder edge.
Color to black and lower the stroke width.
The lower stroke width looks better.
Now, I will add some more color.
I will experiment with some splatters.
Select, Brush, Splatter, and the first splatter.
Follow the face contour.
Make the stroke broader.
Make the splatter red in color.
Place some more splatters on the cheek and make navy.
Too many, I will redo it.
Less looks better.
Increase the size.
Choose a splatter with a stroke,
I will make this stroke pink in color.
Adjust the stroke width for best fit.
Select another splatter.
These are single splatters.
Color pink.
And another here.
Tap the Spacebar for Pick tool and move the object.
Then reduce the size.
I will also put some splatters here.
This style should look good.
Reduce the stroke width.
Select the new Twirl tool.
Just click and hold and it to twirl the splatter.
That’s a great effect.
Select twice to bring up the rotation handles
and rotate a little.
I think that looks brilliant.
I'm finished.
Why don’t you try something similar, draw an image
Then scan the image and stylize it.
