I'm Luke Sinnott, injured soldier, injured in Afganistan, blown up about 3 years ago. I lost both legs above the knee and I now walk with the aid of prosthetics.
Which I currently use as I am wearing them at the moment. And I've been using the BerkelBike for a year and a half.
I was quite new to being disabled. I had only been using prostethic legs for a year and a half.
I was looking for a way to get mobile on the road without using handbikes, cause I felt my shoulderblades were getting to much punishment on handbikes.
And I wanted to start using my legs a bit more again.
I went to the dissablity conference in mind looking for bikes and I was looking around different bike stands.
Paul actuially kinda pulled me over and said "have you thought about a bike where it combined arm and leg?"
I said I hadn't seen anything like that at the tradefair. So he brought this bike out of the back and I was cycling around the trade,
I was getting told of by the security and straight away I could see that this was perfect.
You can stop and not fall over, which is a problem anyone with mobility difficulty wil have if they try to cycle a normal bike.
And to be honest, having a bike with stabilizers looks like you are 5 years old again, so you don't want to go back to that.
So the recumbent is a nice compromise.
I knew that was the kind of thing I want and the BerkelBike offered that while having hand controll power, leg controll power and the stability, which I don't think you can get anywhere else.
That's why I went for it really. I also like the fact that you can take it apart, break it down into peaces so it can be stored more easily.
You can get it in the car a lot easier than most bikes, because it breaks down so easily, you don't spend the next half hour trying to put everything back together again.
I like how you can adjust everything. You can adjust how far away you are from the peddles, the angle that you are sitting at so you are not slipping forward on the seat.
There is a lot of adjustability to the bike and a lot of parts that are very userfriendly, which you wouldn't get in most bikes.
Handbikes I always just used for exercise, because there is no practicality it.
I'd get on the handbike, cycle in a circle and I would come back to where I started, because I had to take my legs off, which made me very incapable of anything other than cycle.
No matter how weak one limb is, you can always work that limb a little more than the other limb. So if you want to go on your arms, because your arms are weak you can do that.
If you are having trouble with your legs you can peddle just on your legs. I thought that was a fantastic, unique thing of the BerkelBike.
You can either isolate muscle groups or areas of your body or just be casual about it and enjoy the fact that you are out riding around. 0:03:53.976,1193:02:47.295 The great thing is that all four limbs are being used, which you don't get from anything else I've really seen on the market.
