Hello, my name is Marijn with ToneControl. And today I'll be showing you the new Pioneer
DDJ-SB MIDI Controller.
This MIDI Controller is a perfect controller for starter DJs or DJs willing to switch from
playing with CD's or Vinyls to digital DJ'ing.
Or a DJ that hasn't played for a while and wants to pick it up again.
What are the features of the DDJ-SB? This is an affordable MIDI Controller, which is
easy to understand and works perfectly with Serato DJ intro.
Now I'm going to show one of the key features, making the DDJ-SB such a nice controller.
To get started, at the bottom of the controller you can see four transport buttons.
With this feature you can search through your songs, here you can see the cue button.
You can put a key point at the beginning of your song, and play it from that key point.
A lot of DJs use the cue button with the Pioneer CDJs but it is also easy to use with MIDI
Controllers.
Next to your cue button is the play button so you can play your song or pause it.
With the sync button you can easily synchronize two tracks with each other.
I will demonstrate it to you right now.
You don't even have to match beats. You can be more creative with this Controller.
Of course it is easy to switch off the sync button.
Now I'll show you how the sync button works
Now you see that the two tracks are perfectly synchronized.
But they do have a different pace.
What else do we have here? You can see four pads; these are the hot cues.
These are key points just like the cue button that you can put in your track, and navigate to.
For example, if you want a hot cue right in the drop you can set that easily.
I will be showing it to you right now
I would like to put a hot cue here... and here... and I would like to have one here.
As you can see, you can play live and remix.
The hot cue is easy to remove:
With the use of the shift button - the button that gives everything a second function.
By pressing these buttons, and there gone.
You have an auto loop function that you can use to set automatically a loop.
What is a loop? A loop is a piece of a song that continuously repeats.
This is useful to start a song with or just before a drop or a break.
So the song doesn't stop instantly.
This will make mixing easy and you can put another song in it.
Let me show you.
This piece is repeating itself continuously.
Bigger loops are possible too.
You have 2 beats, 4 beats and 8 beats. You can remove the loop easily, by pressing the
loop button again.
This was the auto loop for now.
We also have the manual loop, so you can set the loop manually.
You can do that manually, here you have an in and an out button.
This is the beginning and the ending.
As soon as you push the button, for example the out button you can edit the loop.
This is the same with the in button.
There is also a reloop/exit button, if you push that button you go back to the loop or
out the loop.
And with the cutter button you can cut the loop in half.
Next to it you can find a sampler that has four samples inside the serato software.
For example a high hat or a snare that you can use threw your tracks.
There is a little disadvantage, there isn't a separate volume fader for the effects.
You can use the four samples, which are the same as the other deck.
But you can't control the volume, which means that the effects will come out fully over
your output on your tracks.
It would be useful if they added a volume fader for the DDJ-SB.
What else do you have on the DDJ-SB?
Well as you can see you have big aluminium jog wheels, which are useful to scratch or
bend.
Benden means you can temporary slower down your tracks or make it faster.
It order to make that happen, turn the jog wheel on the side
The jog wheels have nice curves where you can put your finger.
That means we will continue to the next feature, that is the key lock.
With this feature the tracks stay in the same tone. Doesn't matter how fast you turn or
turn up the pace.
In these day's it is really important for DJ'ing.
I will show you now the different between the key lock on and off
This is with the key lock on
This is with the key lock off
So as you can hear, the tone changes a lot.
There is also a button so you can put the SB scratch off and easily on.
This is the speed fader, so you can edit the pace.
This fader can be used make the pace of two tracks similar.
You will able to edit the pace of each track.
Now I will show you the speed button.
It has a pretty short fader, but it has everything you need.
You can also edit the pace of the range, by pressing shift en the key lock button.
You can choose the following pace, 8%, 16% and 50%.
Those are the size of the steps.
Like you can see 50% are really big steps.
Here we have 8% these steps are pretty small.
Now we will be continuing to the mixer section.
Here we have the high tone, at least this is the section you mix your tracks.
Here we have the high tone, on both channels, mid tone and low tone.
With a complete kill, that means that the high, mid and low tones are dead, until it's
a completely silence.
Beneath the high, mid and low, there is a filter with a high pass and a low pass.
Beneath that button there is a button you can pre-listen, I will show you that now.
On the side of the SB where you can connect you headphone, that's right over here.
You can connect your headphone with mini-jack or a bigger jack, 6.35mm.
You can also connect you microphone, next with the corresponding volume button.
With the cue button over here you can choose which track you can pre-listen, if they both
turned on you're listening to both decks.
If the left button turns on you listen to the left deck and if this ones turns on you
can listen to the right deck.
With the headphone level button you can control the volume of your headphone.
And with the headphone mix button you can control the cue the selected channels or the
master volume that is the sound what the audience is hearing.
Now we will be moving to the next step, where does the sound come from?
The sound comes from the back of the DDJ-SB with two RCA outputs.
This is just a standard output for every DJ gear. It's not a balanced cable just a regular
cable.
The DDJ-SB is perfect to connect to the mixer in the club.
The DDJ-SB is USB connected. It's the same USB cable that is used for printers.
The USB comes with the DDJ-SB, so you can get started right away.
With this button you can control the master volume.
When the button says zero there will be no sound coming out.
When the fader stands on half the sound that comes out of the DDJ-SB is only on half.
When the button stands on max volume the volume that is produced will be on max.
Other than that you have 2 big volume faders where you can control your volume.
And a cross fader which you can control which channel you're listing to.
For example you have only this channel and just like this you have the other channel.
And just like that you hear both channels
A new feature of the DDJ-SB is the filter fade. With this filter you can mix two tracks
with a high pass filter.
It's really funny to use.
DJ's that just have started is useful and easy to use.
Or you need to mix a track that is really hard.
For example two pop tracks or 2 request songs. This can be used for drive-in DJ's.
What do we have more? A browser button so you can search between your songs.
A two load button, so you can load a song to one deck and another one in the other deck.
Also a panel button to switch panels.
This will bring us to the next feature. The effects that Serato DJ uses.
For example I got 3 effects here, with the button you can control the intensity of the
effect.
For example this is the referp.
This is a low pass filter.
And here you got the echo.
And on the second deck we got other effects, you can easily search threw your effects.
By pressing the shift button and by pressing this button.
These effects are powered by Isoto, that mean the effects are from high quality.
You also can edit you beats where your beats are adapted.
And you can use that by turning this button.
Like you can hear the wheeler time to the echo.
Or the timer of the timer to the facer.
And by pressing the shift button you have a different effect.
The block 2 effects are connected to channel 2.
And the block 1 effects are connected to channel 1.
